1. How important are our motives in prayer? Should we be concerned about them? - Our motives are very important. We must know where our heart is at all times lest we be like the Pharisees. 2. Are long prayers especially pleasing to the Lord? - Not in and of themselves. We should not pray long prayers just in babbling and repetition. 3. The Lord taught us to pray to 'our' Father. To whom was He referring when He used the word 'our'? - He means God the Father. We are part of the body of God's redeemed people, not just a redeemed individual. 4. What important elements of prayer were included by our Lord in the Lord's Prayer? How many can you identify? - Praise and Glorify God. - God should be lifted up on earth as He is in heaven and we should submit and obey Him. - Petitions, we should pray for our daily physical and spiritual needs. - We should pray for forgiveness. We can only do so if we have forgiven others first. - Seeking deliverance from temptations in our sinful nature. 5. Are we limited to praying only according to the model that the Lord gave us in the Sermon on the Mount? - No, we can pray in the Spirit on all occasions in all kinds of prayers and requests'. This should include Thanksgiving, which is not mentioned in the Lord's prayer yet should be prayed for.
